Will Canadian Anti-Spam Laws Help Our Readers?
Happy Canada Day Folks! July 1st 2014 marks the celebration of our country's birthday and allows us to reflect on all of the wonderful things that make our country and being a citizen here special. This Canada Day also rings in the new anti-spam laws introduced by the government. As I opened my email this morning I was greeted by more spam emails than I have ever received before. My favourite one was entitled 'Cost Effective Toenail Fungus Removal', promising to take away the embarrasement of unsightly toes with a laser treatment. Really? For small businesses and publications who operate within the rules and try to be very respectful of their customers' wishes and time, having to re-confirm reader consent with an email to each and every recipient of our newsletters seems unnecessary. The people who follow the rules will lose readers/clients and the companies that operate outside of the country and outside of the rules of privacy anyway will continue to litter up our inboxes. Please weigh on on this issue and tell us what you think about it.
