Boating Industry Canada's Editor, Andy Adams, spent a few days at IBEX in Tampa last week and what he discovered is that the North American boating industry is on the upswing. Over 650 marine industry professional packed into the Industry Breakfast and Awards Ceremony to kick off the 24th Annual International BoatBuilders' Exhibition & Conference (IBEX) taking place this week at the Tampa Convention Center. In addition to a dynamic presentation by NCAA Division 1 Head Coach Bob Knight and the State of the Industry address by Thom Dammrich, President of the National Marine Manufacturers Association there were several important industry awards presented.

BOATERS LINE-UP FOR DISCOVER BOATING HANDS-ON SKILLS TRAINING (HOST) SESSIONS
HOST officially launched in Canada this year with great success at the Montreal In-Water Boat Show from September 5-7, 2014. Registration for HOST sessions reached capacity before the opening of the show. In addition, before opening day there was a wait list of 47 people who wanted to participate. The successful launch of HOST can be attributed to a range of marketing efforts including, but not limited to: public relations, consumer and industry newsletters, promotion through social media channels as well as on DiscoverBoating.ca, and a cross promotion with the boat show and training partner, the Aquanaute Training Centre (www.aquanaute.ca).

MIKE MAYNARD, NORTHERN LIGHTS VICE PRESIDENT AND NORTHEAST BRANCH MANAGER, HAS DIED
Mike Maynard, longtime Northern Lights Vice President and Northeast Branch Manager, died peacefully at his home on September 20, after a long bout with cancer. He was 62. Maynard had worked for Northern Lights since the 1980's, when he was hired to start up the company's Northeast branch office. Mike worked tirelessly to build the NL and Lugger brands in the Northeast, promoting the product into the Northeast and Atlantic Canadian commercial fishing industry, as well as working closely with several prestigious East Coast boatbuilders.
