Getting smart with smart phones

Here we are in mid-December and undoubtedly, everyone is preparing for the Christmas holidays and then immediately after that, we start into boat show season. This would be a good time to start getting smart with smart phones.

I have recently attended several different tradeshows and conferences as well as an interesting educational session on effective show displays that was sponsored by a Toronto-based exhibit company called Skyline. Credit where credit is due.

They brought in a presenter who had some great suggestions around the use of smart phones in conjunction with your tradeshow display.

There are a number of apps and programs available that enable you to scan people's badges to record their personal information for follow-up after the show. There are other programs that will allow you to quickly capture the individual's name and email.

Perhaps the least complicated thing is to have your salespeople use the phone's voice recognition capabilities to record names, email addresses and a few brief notes for follow-up after talking to each sales prospect. All you have to do is email it to yourself and then add it to your records later for follow-up.

If you're not already using some of these capabilities, it could really boost your sales follow-up for the coming show season.

On the other hand, smart phones can be the death of sales interaction. We'll talk about that next week!
