Boating Industry Canada's Newsweek

MAY 24 WEEKEND KICK-OFF TO SUMMER 2017!

"We hope that by the time you read this you will be looking back on a busy and profitable start to the season for your business. The first point I'd like to make is that we recognize that staffing is an issue for many marine industry businesses. We hope that you have all the people you need to maximize your business opportunities.

Our News Week Career Opportunities section [at the bottom of this newsletter] has rapidly filled up with great job opportunities. Of course, there are lots of people looking for skilled Marine technicians, but there are many other wonderful opportunities. We just finished posting five new job opportunities from the Le Boat charter cruise people.

Le Boat, part of Travelopia, is Europe's leading provider of inland waterway boating holidays. Currently operating in 8 countries, with a fleet of 900 charter boats, they attract customers from all over the world, and promoting tourism in Canada is an important initiative for both the Federal and Provincial Governments. Le Boat in Ontario is looking for a Base Manager, a Marketing Manager and a Marketing Coordinator, a Vacation Planning Supervisor and even a Managing Director for their Smith Falls facilities.

These are examples of the great opportunities in the marine industry and related tourism businesses.

Have a look for yourself and post any opportunities available in your business today. The season is coming on strong!

On the other hand, we have to make hay while the sun shines because extreme weather events seem to be more and more frequent.

The Ontario Sailing website has identified a host of yacht clubs on Ontario waterways, that are currently underwater and closed. Like many other areas in Canada, Southern Ontario has received far more rainfall than usual and although the rains seem to have passed as I write this, huge volumes of water continue to drain into the Great Lakes.

On their website www.ontarioasailing.ca, there are 17 yacht clubs listed as being closed for the long weekend due to high water levels while five are listed as being open, mainly because they have floating docks. That doesn't mean that these clubs are necessarily fully operational though.

We hope that your business, or favorite place of boating is open and that you've enjoyed an excellent start to the summer of 2017 boating season!"
