TALK TO YOUR CUSTOMERS - THE TIMING IS EXCELLENT
In the provinces of Québec and Ontario, the Victoria Day weekend weather was overcast and soggy to say the least. BC is experiencing extreme weather too. I just saw photos from the Suswap and as predicted, last year's peak water level has already been reached and surpassed. Lake levels will continue to rise quickly and should exceed the 20-year peak average in the next week.
It occurs to us that your customers will share in the experience and it would make everyone feel better if you talk to them.
Best is always to talk in person and commiserate, or at least share information. Using your social media outlets can be very useful if we are starting out the season with less than favourable weather.
If you don't already have a marina cam or feed from your lake to show the area weather, it makes sense to get one. Your customers care a lot.
Many marinas and yacht clubs on the Great Lakes are under water and while we can't do anything about it, your customers will feel better knowing others share their feelings.
And, remind them that we experienced low water very recently - low water levels that uncovered rocks and shoals, made some canals impassable and cost some harbours a lot for dredging. Keels and props took a fair bit of damage. High water is better if we can't have normal levels.
From the dawn of time, the weather has been a favourite topic of discussion. So, talk to your customers. Share information. The timing lis excellent to remind them that better weather lies ahead!
