IBEX 2017 OPENS - NO SIGN OF HURRICANE DAMAGE
I have just arrived in Tampa, Florida and there is simply no sign that a Category 3 Hurricane had swept through the area just a week ago. There may have been some damage but whatever there was, has been cleaned up or repaired swiftly and without a trace.
IBEX show organizers had said the Tampa Convention Centre was not damaged and that now does not seem surprising given the apparent lack of damage from the airport to my downtown hotel. Walking through the area last night, I saw no evidence of a storm, let alone a hurricane.
But, other areas, particularly Miami were hit much harder than Tampa, so when the doors to IBEX open this morning, we may see that some boats or displays are missing or have been down-graded due to the storm. The electrical grid was down for over half the state meaning that many road intersections were reduced to four way stops. Since that can't always work, traffic was re-routed to secondary roads and detours that might have made it far harder to get displays, and especially larger items like boats, into the Tampa area.
News Week is here in Tampa for the entire IBEX Show and we will be bringing you much more detailed information on both the Hurricane Irma situation and of course, all the great new products and technologies on display, in the September 26 edition.
