LOOKING FOR MORE BOAT CUSTOMERS

As I look out at the lake on this, the 19th of October, I still see boats and with today's high winds on Lake Simcoe, the kite surfers have returned. They are blazing along the shore then swinging up above the tree tops as they come about and head back the other way.

It looks like a major thrill!

The weather remains warm and sunny (better than we got in June in Ontario and Quebec!) and it makes me wonder if we shouldn't start summer a bit later. Not actually joking…

Anyway, we continue to see people doing things like kite surfing, kayaking, using a standup paddle board and doing other enjoyable activities on the water. Those are great and affordable ways to get people into life on the water and boating. So, is your business supporting these entry-level activities?

My observation is that everyone wants to sell a few big, high-end boats and we are ignoring the little stuff. I think that's a mistake.

Here's another thing; does your website welcome and reward visitors or do you ambush them to get their email address, sign them up for your lists and start pushing out your message about expensive new boats? Not to name any names, but I recently visited a boat builder's site and that's exactly what happens. You barely land there and up pops the blocker saying "sign up for our newsletter".

If you are really looking for more boat customers, I suggest you entice them and make it easy and affordable. So, take a look at the Grow Boating and Discover Boating story below. Maybe there are some good ideas!
