THE PEOPLE ARE THE BEST PART

In the coming days, both Boating BC and Boating Ontario will be holding their Annual Meetings and Conferences while the Atlantic Marine Trades Association has just had their AGM. I'm planning to be at the Boating Ontario conference for their 50th Anniversary and I'm sure it will be a great event, but I feel the people are the best part.

Just the opportunity to be with so many other people who are doing what you are doing for a living, is a great thing. They are meeting the same hurdles you may hit and they are finding their own solutions just as you will, but at the conference, you can network and talk, share your experiences and learn from their solutions.

In the environment of the conference, many voices are far louder than one voice. The group can discuss and take action on key issues, and they can share the knowledge to greatly increase the momentum on solutions. Maybe the best part is just connecting with others who have the same interests as you do.

Both the BC and Ontario conferences are willing to take registrations even from non-members.

Experiencing the AGM or Conference is the best way to understand how valuable it can be and there is still time to get into the Boating BC Conference (Nov. 21 and 22 in Richmond, BC) and the Boating Ontario Conference (Nov. 26 to 28 in Collingwood, ON).

Hope to see you there…and thanks for supporting the industries associations.

On a different note, my recent comments about smaller boats and ways to get new people started in boating seems to be continuing and maybe the dialogue will stimulate some increased profile for entry-level boats. This week I got a letter from Malcolm Little, CPYB at Swans Yacht Sales who wanted me to know that Swans Yacht Sales always has small boats at the Toronto International Boat Show., and he tells us that they usually sell a couple at the show as well. They will have some smaller boats in the 2018 Toronto Boat Show.

I think that's great and let's hope they can direct more people to The Lake where the Toronto boat show organizers always have some kayaks and smaller craft in the water. People can actually take them for a ride, or a paddle indoors.

Let's encourage show visitors to actually try it out!
