THE ODDS OF WINNING

I want to share a really great idea with you - one that is a low risk, high return idea to help you re-engage with your boat show sales leads from January.

Many marinas and dealers invest a huge percentage of their annual marketing budget in their boat show displays. But you do it because you meet valuable sales leads.

The challenge is that the boat show is in January and if you haven't been able to close a deal with them by this time, your sales efforts have lost momentum. Here is how to open that door again if you have their address. This great idea is one that I stole from a tradeshow marketing expert and I think you'll really like it.

I'm sure you talk to a lot of people at the boat show before you find one that's ready to buy a boat. On the other hand, you may have many good conversations with potential sales leads. You just need to get those conversations going again, but we all know it's hard to get through to people.

Great if you have somebody's phone number, but reaching out to people that way, and getting them going again, is pretty tricky. You are almost back to cold calling. They may not remember you personally, or your name, and with call display on almost every phone, you wind up wasting your time in voicemail.

Email is even worse. It's so easy to delete. Most of us get far too many emails every morning and throughout the day. We just 'stop, block and delete' to get back to efficiently managing our own business. So, the challenge is to find a way to get your boat show lead to respond. They ignore phone calls, they delete emails, but the great idea is that they can't resist opening a box.

That's right - I said a box. It doesn't have to be a big box, just large enough that the mail service doesn't lose it. I realize it's going to cost you five or maybe even $10 in postage but compared to the cost of your boat show display, is $1000 in marketing money to follow up 100 leads going to be too much?

The odds of winning are a lot better for you, if you can re-engage with your boat show prospects early in the year and sending them a box will surely get their attention.
