FABULOUS WEATHER, LONG MEMORIES
I've just returned from a wonderful Beneteau new product launch event in Newport, Rhode Island. Historic Newport is absolutely gorgeous in the summer and we had a wonderful time sailing the new Beneteau Oceanis 46.1 and their Oceanis 51.1 on our first day there.
We enjoyed a very memorable cocktail reception that evening at the New York Yacht Club which occupies a particularly choice location overlooking the bay in Newport. This very historic club maintains the traditions including jacket and tie dress and the restriction that no photos are to be taken. No problem - I'll never forget our evening.
The next day we got to sample the new Antares powerboats from Beneteau and I think they will rapidly establish themselves in our market for being strong performers with innovative features, at attractive prices. That introduction is beautifully timed for both the continuing strong economy here in North America and of course, to capitalize on the long memories people will have of the fabulous weather we've enjoyed this summer.
Newport was in the high 80s Fahrenheit with clear skies and 6 to 8 kn of wind to help us enjoy the new Oceanis and Antares models.
Flying home last week, I was looking forward to a cool evening drive home from the airport but as we were landing in Toronto, the captain mentioned that it was 32°C and that Toronto was breaking temperature records that went back over a century.
Looking ahead, I see very promising weather forecasts for the coming week and I think we can all agree, when the weather is fabulous like this, people want to get out on their boats. If they don't have a boat, let's hope they show up at the boat shows this winter and invest in a new boat for the summer of 2019.
If 2019 is anything like this summer, it will be money well spent…just be ready!
