Docking A.I.D.
First, this week marks the opening for the Vancouver and the Calgary boat shows so our winter show season continues but some of the biggest product launch news will surely be made at the Miami show beginning on Valentine's Day. The crowds in Miami will be huge because of the combined Miami International Boat Show and the Miami Yacht Show who are now cooperatively marketing and staging two shows in Miami simultaneously.
The most significant new product launch that I'm looking for is automated docking. I've decided to call it Docking A.I.D. - automated intelligence docking.
In fact, Prestige Yachts working with Raymarine and FLIR are launching an automated docking system called DockSense at the Miami show - check out the story and video in this week's News Week (below).
I think everybody's working like mad on this. On January 31, I flew out to a special event at Mercury Marine's famous Lake X facility in Florida. The big news is embargoed until the Miami public introduction but you can expect that Mercury and Brunswick will have autonomous docking assist.
The boating world fell in love with joystick docking as soon as it came out. It's a leadpipe cinch that our buyers are going to like automated docking. Can't wait to try it!
Standby for details…
