Happy Holidays from Canadian Yachting!
This will be our final issue of CY Onboard for 2014 as we don't publish over the holiday weeks in December. Thank you to all of our readers in print and online and followers on our social presences. We feel quite blessed to be part of the Canadian boating community and thankful for the opportunities we have all year to connect with the growing numbers of people immersed in the boating lifestyle.
A most sincere wish to you for a happy holiday season all across this great country. You won't hear from us until our first issue of the New Year on January 8th, just in time for the boat show season. Come and see us at the Toronto Boat Show from January 10-18, Booth 1720 and at the Vancouver Boat Show from January 21-25, Booth 174. It's always gratifying to put names to faces so please take a moment and say hello.

Ask the Experts with Rob Macleod - Ablative Bottom Paint
This fall, while hauling boats Tim and I got into a discussion about the best way to prepare boats with ablative paints for winter storage. The question came up when I passed on having our boat's hull power washed as Sojourn sat on the cradle. All the boats around Sojourn had harder bottom paints, which are intended for racing boats. The power washing, as you can see, took off all of the growth but left the bottom paint intact.

Thornbury Woman To Operate Boat Cruises Out of Collingwood Harbour
Council approved the proposal on Monday evening and as part of the plan, the municipality will receive $2,000 in fees. The contract is for one year, with an option to renew for four years. Matthews, a Thornbury resident, currently works as a deck hand with the Coast Guard and captain's designation for the vessel. She said her father Dave Matthews builds steel tugboats in Port Dover and she's been around boats all of her life.

Jingle Bells and Downwind Tales
The 2014 Christmas Caribbean Rally starts on December 14th, from Marina Rubicon in Lanzarote, bound for Nelson's Dockyard Antigua. The theory is that by mid-December the trade winds are better established, making for a faster and more comfortable crossing; last year, the quickest cruising boat completed the crossing in just 13 days. If this proves to be correct again this year, the first arrivals are expected into Nelson's Dockyard, Antigua from around 27th December, with the majority of the fleet arriving in time to celebrate New Year in the Caribbean.
