Sounds on the Water
Cruising around on the water this weekend it occured to me what a rich bank of different, compelling sounds can be found out there. It doesn't matter what type or size of boat you float, the sounds are available to everyone.
While at anchor, the resting sounds of summer encompass birds calling, fish jumping, distorted music as it travels across the water, lapping waves, the unmistakable sound of the rigging against the sail mast, rain, thunder, other boats in the distance, the familiar sound of a friend's engine as they approach. While underway the sounds might vary from your particular engine's hum to the sound of your navigator yelling instructions as you approach a tricky section of the route. These are the sounds that we take for granted as they are in symphony with each other and we are basking in our own favourite environment. In the winter months we'll be trying to bring to mind the individual sounds as we make our way through another Canadian winter.
We'd love to know what your favourite sounds are of spending time on the water.Email, Facebook or Tweet us anytime and share your thoughts. Happy Boating!
