Are you shrinking?
Dear friends. My boat cover is on and tomorrow I'm planning to pump antifreeze through my freshwater system and put some stabilizer in my diesel. The rites of autumn.
But tell me do you shrink wrap your boat? There are a lot of pros and cons. For some owners it's convenient - just ding the guys and they come and do it. It's secure and doesn't rip, like a tarp may. Detractors of shrink wrapping point to the huge bin of plastic that piles up in the spring and the annual cost that could pay for a custom cover in three or four years.
I got a cover from Genco and three years in, it only has two small holes. While I pat myself (smugly) on the back for the re-usable approach, I confess that I bitch every time I put up the incomprehensible web of aluminum and schlepp the heavy tarp in place. Then in the spring, where do you store it all?
What do you think?Tell us: to shrink or not to shrink, that is the question. Let us know at CYOnBoard@kerrwil.com . We'll count you on one side or another and publish your thoughts in an issue or two.
