2020? 2024? Hard to keep up

World Sailing, as the name implies, is the organization representing the sport of sailing around the world and along with the notorious IOC determines what happens in the Olympics. You may not be following it closely, but the organization appears to be swirling with controversy even last week when the organization met in Sarasota. It's like FIFA, the organization that runs soccer, and equally bogged in special interests and controversy.

The news lately is overflowing, and it revolves around the choice of boats for the Olympics, male/female event and medal equality and many arcane topics.

This is very important for Sailing Canada and especially for the sensational Canadian athletes who commit their entire lives to training hoping to compete. The 2020 Games in Japan seems to be clear enough but not 2024 in Paris. Which boats and who is sailing them seems to change every day.

So hands up everyone who follows this? Anyone besides Paul Henderson, who was president of the world organization some time ago, and our John Kerr, CY's director and a proud Canadian Olympic medal winner?

Powerboaters - do you feel Olympic sailing is important to you? Club cruisers? Wednesday night beer canners? Let us know, please.
