It shoots, it scores!
It's time to brave the winter and head to TIBS, VIBS, HIBS, or maybe BOOT for our annual pilgrimage. Even if you love the boat you currently have, it's a delight to see other boats, particularly new designs.
While looking at gleaming beauties is always interesting and informative, it sometimes can produce some green-eyed feelings. "That boat is nicer than mine; I want it." We're here to help you manage those feelings, (or not.) If your visceral senses say you love a particular boat, you probably do. Trust your gut; on your boat show walking tour common sense and practicality are overrated.
At the boat show go on board every kind of boat - power, sail, or rowing shell - and appreciate them for what they offer. When you see ones that bing your goal light, note that. The flashing beacon doesn't mean you should immediately jettison your current boat, although many boaters often move up, or change, or acquire a second boat. See them all, curb your jealousy, then make a file in the back of your brain where you keep pictures and data on boats you like and love. Refer to it frequently for inspiration. It's part of the pleasure (and gentle torture) of being in the boating game.

False Creek Fuels takes the guesswork out of choosing fuel additives for your boat
Most of us have heard of fuel additives, whether it be for gasoline or diesel. But which one to choose, if any, and why? False Creek Fuels in Vancouver has decided to take the guess work out of the equation and supply ValvTect Marine Fuel, a pre-treated fuel formulated for marine use. For gasoline, ValvTect keeps stabilizes fuel for 1 year or longer, inhibits corrosion, contains a moisture dispersant (to help safely remove water), prevents phase separation with ethanol fuels, cleans fuel injectors, intake valves, intake port, and manifold deposits, cleans combustion chamber and carburetor deposits, and prevents filter plugging and extends filter life.

Sarah Douglas Blog: Qualifying for the Pan Am Games
There are many goals that I have set out in my life, they can be categorized into three: personal, sailing and career. Currently, majority of the goals that I am seeking are in the sailing category as I work towards the 2020 Olympics. This past weekend, I am happy to have achieved a goal of qualifying for the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru. The Pan Am Games is a once in a lifetime experience and I am so excited to be representing Canada this coming summer.

Electrical Installations - Part 2: fuses and breakers
Fuses and breakers are collectively called 'overcurrent protection' - and these come in many different shapes, styles and sizes. Their purpose is the same: to prevent a situation where a larger than intended electrical current is running through the circuit, which puts the circuit at risk of overheating, fire and damage to equipment. A fuse is a thin metal strip that melts or breaks when too much current flows through it. A breaker is an automatic switch that opens when too much current flows through it.

From the Helm of Adamant 1 - Blog 23 - Back on board. Hooray!
After an autumn in Canada, we arrived back in northern Florida at Adamant 1 on January 3rd and with fingers crossed, we opened the hatch to find no mould, mildew, bugs or critters! That was a relief. We also found the one solar panel we had left connected had kept the batteries charged. There would be no repeat of last year's problems! The boat was filthy with dust from the two pulp and paper mills in the city, but a couple days of intense scrubbing fixed that problem.
