The Swipe and Tap Dance

The use of mobile Internet-connected devices such as smartphones and tablets has increased from 53% in 2012 to 60% in 2013. During a recent conference, a presenter asked attendees "still banging instead of swiping" to identify themselves. Very few raised their hands. Even with new products, such as the onein this edition, swiping and tapping have now fully replaced pencil strokes.

Canadian enterprises sold more than $136 billion in goods and services over the Internet in 2013, an increase of $14 billion from a year earlier, according to StatsCan. And just like 2012, wholesale trade, manufacturing and retail trade accounted for the majority of the value of e-commerce sales at 61 percent.
