MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR
Be green and productive — it's possible and desirable
In our industry, we attend many conferences. We see emerging trends, new technological solutions that sometimes transform the market quickly, other times less so. It's hard to pinpoint the moment that green technologies went mainstream, but they are no longer the preserve of a minority, and we're now finding applications for them that previously belonged solely to the established technologies that preceded them. It seems that even productivity at work is now linked to a green environment. Good reading!

The Lost Productivity Cost of Not Being Green
By Kerry Kilpatrick
Remember the 80/20 rule? That rule details how 20% of activity typically yields 80% of results. When employee costs are high it's easy to put the other 30% (which includes the cost of energy efficiency/green upgrades) low on the list of priorities for investing...

Now those challenges can be significantly reduced with a new standard for ports and marine operations for offshore wind energy structures. ISO's new international standard will help that development, improving the safety and accessibility of the sites...

Investment in New Housing Up in April
Investment in new housing construction rose 2.3% to $3.9 billion in April compared with the same month in 2014. Increased spending in row house construction (+5.9% to $383 million) and semi-detached dwelling construction (+3.2% to $229 million) also contributed to the advance. Single-family dwellings were the lone component to register a decline...
