We have become an attractive industry!

We have been talking often and for some time about the renewal of our industry's workforce as Baby Boomers retire. Demographic statistics cannot deny this reality. One key fact that does change, however, is the appeal our industry can have for young people. Long confined to a junction box and wire lengths, electricity is now at the heart of new technology, from LiFi to PoE to IoT, from electric transport to cities and smart buildings. I raise my hat to all those who have always embraced the values of our industry and believed in its potential. We have become an attractive industry. Good reading!

Washing Away Terror, Indecision and Loss of Hope

By Keith Sones
Sones One of the truly ironic things in life is that the events that shape us, make us stronger than we would be otherwise and define our adult selves are, frequently, bad things. At least they seem that way when they happen to us. As a child, you may have had a difficult time dealing with the divorce of your parents, then later realized it was for the best. A prolonged illness might have kept you isolated from your school friends, through which you discovered your ability to be comfortable with yourself. Childhood poverty, always tough for anyone, may have been the source of your work ethic and why you value ensuring your young family is safe and financially secure. Read More

Q&A Brought to You by Britech

I’ve meagered out the self-regulating cable and it’s clear but the breaker keeps tripping

Britech Often the cable lengths can be too long and place too high a load on the breaker. Always consult load and length charts from the manufacturer when sizing circuits. For instance, the manufacturer’s chart for a 5 watt per foot cable installed on a 20 amp 208 volt circuit may only allow for a 375-foot long length of cable. If the cable exceeds 374 feet, it will trip the breaker. Read More
