Take steps to stay informed and to participate in the debates

Whether it's technical issues or best practices in managing your business, none of us are safe from mistakes or the unexpected. Some are more important than others — those affecting safety, of course, and those affecting our reputation. In a time of extensive social networking, reputations are built and destroyed quickly. Hence, the importance of avoiding mistakes and limiting the unexpected. One way is to stay informed, to continue technical training, which enables us to participate intelligently in debates of the hour. For instance, with the emergence of smart buildings, the debate between direct and alternating current is back. We give you an outline in this issue, so that you will be able to answer customer questions and participate in the debate on this important question, which could change the profile of electrical distribution in the years to come. Good reading!

Electric Vehicle Energy Management System

CSA Group Electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) can draw a substantial load when in the charging mode. For existing buildings, adding EVSE may result in the total load exceeding the existing service capacity. In this case, the first option is to increase the service size. A second option is to install a system that monitors the power being drawn by EVSEs and other building loads, and controls the EVSE loads so that the overall load does not exceed the limits of the existing service, feeders, and branch circuits.
