Customer service, you say?
Developing a customer service culture is not that complicated, it's self-evident, it's not that hard to do, and yet… Training and support must be on your agenda to ensure that employees understand the importance of customer relations in a hyper-competitive market like the one we currently live in. Your goal is not only to have happy customers, but also customers who will recommend your business to others. Also in this issue, "suitable as a motor disconnect" or not, and new electrical distribution solutions. Good reading!

Getting your Team to Care about Customers — 5 Strategies for Creating a Customer Service Culture
By Jeff Mowatt
One of the most common challenges I hear from managers and business owners is how to get staff to want to provide better service. After having trained literally hundreds of customer service teams for over 25 years, I've observed that the organizations who nurture the best service behaviours use these five strategies. First, educate towards empathy. It's easier to get employees to care about customers by putting them in the place of customers. That's why when clients bring me in to conduct customer service training seminars for their teams, I ask participants to create a list of what they expect when they are customers. Then we…

Alert: Electrical Lockout Using Manual Motor Controllers
Workers in industrial workplaces such as office buildings, factories, arenas, shops or offices who are required to work on manual motor controllers (MMCs) or other electrical equipment may be at risk of serious injury or death if the electrical equipment is not stopped, de-energized and locked out and tagged before work starts. Manual motor controllers are typically used to control motor driven equipment such as commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning units. They also serve as a motor starter/controller, and sometimes as a motor disconnect. Typically, MMCs should be marked with the words "suitable as a motor disconnect."

Q & A Brought to You by Britech
Why are my self-regulating cables still drawing power and heating up despite the heat wave we're having?
Self-regulating heating cables never stop producing heat, they simply reduce the heat output according to the ambient temperature. Even on the hottest summer days these cables are warming the piping, often for no reason. In the case of heating cables on well lines and other domestic cold water lines, when you hope to have a cold glass of water the water may be warm because the cables are still heating. Freeze-prevention pipe tracing cables are still warming the piping for no reason. Every heating cable should have a thermostat and, of course, a GFI as required by code.
