Message From The Editor

Managing Editor, Line Goyette Experts and public issues — who gets the final word?

Some statements grab our attention more than others, especially if they appeal to our fears. The American Medical Association (AMA) recently initiated a discussion on the effects of blue light on our health, particularly the potential loss of melatonin and its beneficial effects. I've since had people ask me if they should switch out all the lamps of their homes or businesses so they would no longer be subjected to the nefarious effects of LEDs and be deprived of antioxidants forever. In this issue, we publish an article that responds to the AMA. Also, enjoy again our conversation with François-Xavier Souvay, including his comments on blue light. Good reading, and follow us on Twitter @LDSnewsletter.

Lumenpulse's François-Xavier Souvay — Entrepreneur of the Year and Much More

By Line Goyette
Francois Xavier Souvay François-Xavier Souvay, founding president of lighting firm Lumenpulse, is a busy man. He flies from success to success, making new acquisitions, accumulating prestigious awards and patents, and yet keeping himself readily available to share his passion for lighting. I begin by asking what motivates him. "Building a strong brand that can survive and has meaning. My greatest pride is to see our products solve challenges in a masterly way, and to see employees take ownership of these projects." The Montreal-based company he founded in 2006 with 5 employees now has 600 on three continents. Read More

Liteline Corporation — As Luck and Ingenuity Would Have It

By Line Goyette
Liteline Profile The beginnings of a successful company are often the result of a happy confluence of circumstances where intuition, knowledge, economic or social factors and a certain amount of luck all come together. I have met several members of the Silverstein family on various occasions, and each time I have seen a fire burning in their eyes — a fire of passion and pleasure. Here, work, family and leisure are interrelated, and after meeting president Steve Silverstein I might even add that it could be genetic. Mark Silverstein, VP Sales and Marketing, tells me the story that brought me to their facility. Read More

Building the Digital Enterprise

By John Gordon
Building Digital Enterprise I spend a lot of time working with cities to create digital cities — open, secure technology platforms that enable equitable economic growth. I've been building off a belief in recent posts that lighting and lighting-related IoT sensors can create the most pervasive and useful fabric to enable the next era of smart city innovation. I am just as often asked how these same principles can apply in the business world. There are certainly many parallels. Read More
