What your customers know, and what we know about this
Immersed in reports, studies and readings on new technologies related to lighting, we often lose sight of how much our end users — lighting consumers — know or don't know. Especially since some biases have a long life in the non-specialized media. I am always amazed when I participate in technical workshops by the level of knowledge of participants who are not directly related to our industry. In this issue, survey results that tell us a little more about this knowledge and much more. Good reading!

Comparing LED and HID Horticultural Luminaires
An evaluation of the energy and economic performance of LED horticultural luminaires compared to high-pressure sodium (HPS) and metal halide (MH) horticultural luminaires has found that the LEDs cannot replace HPS luminaires on a one-for-one basis while still maintaining the original photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD). The evaluation was conducted by the Lighting Research Center (LRC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and funded in part by Natural Resources Canada.
