Combining quality with expertise
Cutting corners should not be an option when talking about lighting quality. Products and solutions are sometimes used for applications for which they were neither designed nor specified. Variables other than cost and lamp lifespan are worth considering for lighting projects, especially for example when they cater to clients with different needs or ages. Now is the time to think about it, as the population ages and becomes less technophobic. Requirements for home lighting are different, and so too users' expectations. So that you don't miss out on IoT opportunities, avoid compromises and implement best practices. This issue covers all of these topics. Good reading!

Lighting Control for Lighting Quality
By Craig DiLouie
Networked lighting controls can reduce energy consumption by an average 47%. That makes control a powerful tool in managing energy costs, but it only captures a small fraction of its potential value in enhancing quality lighting with LED technology. Quality lighting is a venerable concept. It can be defined as lighting that satisfies owner and user requirements, often looking beyond light levels and watts to address visual comfort, space perception, colour, and more. It is realized through design best practices and metrics as well as quality products.

Eye On IoT
By David Shiller
Not every showroom will be the ideal fit for offering smart home products, but as the fastest-growing category in lighting, it deserves careful consideration. The projections for global home automation sales in 2022 range from approximately US$40 to US$80 billion, depending on the study cited. Most remarkable is the growth of the smart home device market: 37 million units of smart lighting products were shipped globally in 2018, and that is projected to reach 105 million units by 2022. One showroom accepting the challenges and opportunities of the Internet of Things (IoT) is…
