Where Will IoT Take us?

With the first month of 2018 nearly over the time seems to be flying as the automation and control industry continues to make leaps and bounds and look toward the future. Security and Energy Efficiency seem to be the talk of the day, particularly when we consider how to protect control systems from cyber attacks and how the Internet of Things will continue to affect the industry. In this regard we present an interesting approach to protecting connected devices by CSA Group, and Kymera Systems speaks about industries that are likely to be affected by IIoT. Rittal also presents a new IoT interface that is providing Climate Control Solutions that provide better security, monitoring and energy savings. Enjoy!

What Digital Media Platform Do You Most Prefer?

Survey results in the next issue along with a new question

Last edition we asked how you prefer to get your industry news, and unsurprisingly the majority of respondents identified Digital Media as their primary source for industry news. To better develop our delivery of industry news we would like to take this a step further by asking what digital media platform you prefer?

Industry Input Survey Results

Results from Last Issue

Our previous survey asked our audience how they get their industry news and we received a substantial number of replies that clearly identified that Digital Media is the primary outlet of the day, having largely eliminated the need for traditional media avenues. Digital media was identified by 38% of respondents to be the platform of choice, followed by Social Media and other digital media directly produced by Manufacturers and Distributors. Print received the lowest ranking with only 18%, a fact that should not be surprising with speed and flexibility in reporting available to digital platforms. Digital media now offers up-to-date news as it happens and can provide a far more interactive experience and reach a wider audience. In order to serve you better we hope you will continue to answer our Industry Input Surveys and share our newsletter with your colleagues within the industry, make sure everyone has the opportunity to direct the course of your media outlet (send colleagues to subscribe here. http://subscribe.panelbuildersystemsintegrator.ca/) Read More

POSITAL's New Open Source Interfaces for Motor Feedback Kit Encoders

Rotary encoder specialist POSITAL has expanded its interface offerings for its magnetic Kit Encoders, launched with great success last year, with support for the non-proprietary open-source BiSS Line communication protocol. This enables the practical implementation of single-cable technology, which is becoming increasingly popular with motor and robot manufacturers. POSITAL's easy-to-install motor feedback kits, which feature 17-bit electronic resolution, bridge the gap between simple resolvers and more complex and expensive optical encoders for servomotors, robot joints and other applications where absolute rotary position feedback is required.
