White or black?

Or not to mention a bestselling book, many shades of gray. At a time when we can get accurate answers quickly, it seems that being mistaken would no longer be an option. We have all the data we need to make the best choices, so we can no longer plead ignorance. We want to make a profit, so we quickly find the best formula to get there. The best marketing strategies are at your fingertips, just like the industrial revolution. Yet not all of them succeed and not everyone wants to adopt a universal formula. But this free choice is possible only if all the data are available, and in this issue contributor Rick McCarten clearly defines the considerations related to data collection. Good reading!

The importance of timing is also true for corn. Value of Building Permits Declines (Again) in August

Statistique Canada Canadian municipalities issued $7.5 billion worth of building permits in August, down 5.5% from July. This was the second consecutive monthly decrease. Despite these declines, the year-to-date value of building permits (January to August) is up 8.7% compared with the same period in 2016, reflecting a $3.1 billion increase in multi-family dwellings. New Home Prices Edged Up 0.1% in August

Statistique Canada Prices for new homes were unchanged in 15 of the 27 census metropolitan areas surveyed, including what have been Canada's two hottest housing markets — Toronto and Vancouver. For Toronto, this was the third consecutive month of flatness. In Vancouver, this was the first month of no price change, following five consecutive monthly increases. Nationally, new home prices edged up 0.1% in August, primarily reflecting increases in the CMAs of London (+1.0%), Kelowna (+0.9%) and Ottawa-Gatineau, Ontario part (+0.4%). Builders in all three CMAs tied the rise to improved market conditions. In Ottawa-Gatineau, new phases of development also contributed to higher prices. Read More
