On assignment

As you read this I am attending boot, the international boat extravaganza in Dusseldorf. It's a huge show drawing a quarter million visitors through 200,000 m2 in 17 buildings, each dedicated to a different size category of boat or boating extra like charters, clothing or artwork.

It's part of the job description - I'll send reports along to our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages as well as reporting for our Canadian Yachting magazine and Boating Industry Canada publications.

For a couple of decades, Europe has become an important part of the Canadian boat scene eclipsing our domestic sailboat builders (including US-based) and now showing up on the powerboat aisle. In addition to the French giant Beneteau/Jeanneau and German greats Dehler/Hanse and Bavaria, several other EU brands like Polish Delphia have become familiar names to Canadians. There are more on the way like the Italian Cranchi power beauties soon to be available here and others from Turkey and Scandanavia.

From what I see here, the future of our boating scene just may have an increasingly Euro accent.

Eight bells for Brian Chapman

We at CY are incredibly sad to report the death of our friend Brian Chapman this week. Brian has been a sailor, sailmaker and important designer in the community and he will be sorely missed. Brian reportedly succumbed to influenza. We have more information below. Fair winds, Brian.
