Everything is gathering around lighting
This month we will talk a lot about lighting and will also present you with many lighting products. We're going to focus on smart lighting, since it has become smart, and how to install these new connected and intelligent systems. In this issue, we talk about how intelligent lighting plays a central role in unlocking the power of an intelligent building. Because lighting is ubiquitous in all buildings and each fixture is connected to an energy source, it is the ideal conduit to collect data on what is happening in a space at any given time. Sensors built into the fixtures make each light point a node of data on the lighting system network, and these data provide a foundation for analyses that power intelligent construction solutions. Everything is in everything and the other way around, as the poet would say. Good reading!

3M Canada to Host Heat Trace Cables Webinar
3M Canada will be hosting a heat trace cables webinar, where you'll learn about heat trace, heat trace applications (i.e.: pipe freeze protection, roof and gutter, and surface snow and ice melting), and the benefits of self-regulating heat trace cables—TTS™ Heat Trace Cables.
Self-regulating heat trace cables can adjust their output to the surrounding temperature down the cable length. This adaptability to individual thermal conditions helps provide more heat where needed and can also help reduce energy consumption as the ambient temperature increases, reducing heating costs.
Not only will the webinar include product and technical information, but it will feature a live demo of 3M's online heat trace bill of materials generator which helps you spec and quote your projects faster!
The webinar will be led by Mario DeAgazio, Application Engineer and 3M Canada's resident Heat Trace expert!

Multi-Family, Commercial Permits Drive 3% Rise in Value of June Building Permits
The value of building permits issued by Canadian municipalities rose 3.0% to $8.3 billion in July, largely due to increases in multi-family and commercial permits. Gains were reported in five provinces, with over one-third of the national increase in British Columbia. Quebec reported the largest decrease, down 4.0% to $1.6 billion due to lower construction intentions in all components of the non-residential sector. The value of permits for multi-family dwellings rose in seven provinces, increasing 4.2% to $2.8 billion in July. The gain was led by Ontario (+$95 million) and Quebec (+$72 million), following declines the previous month in both provinces.
