How the vocabulary of lighting technology is changing
Decidedly lighting conversations are increasingly shifting from discussions of performance, intelligence and energy savings to well-being, which encompasses visual and aesthetic comfort. Smart and efficient technologies are more at play than ever, as are environmental concerns, and a more holistic, quasi-global approach to lighting is needed. More in this issue. Plus, an update on Title 24 to promote the implementation of best practices.

Best Practices: California's Title 24 and Electric Signs
Government-mandated policies such as California's Building Code, Title 24 have helped identify new ways to reduce energy consumption. Under Title 24, as of 2030 all new nonresidential construction must meet zero net energy requirements. Title 24 compliance may also be required in existing non-residential buildings in the event of certain lighting alterations. A new document published by UL provides audit instructions, responsibilities of the manufacturer, and technical requirements for the certification of electric signs under Title 24. Here's a sampling of the requirements.
